The alaskan RV tech who installed this locked it down so I can’t tilt it up for better sun capture. Perhaps that’s good, given my ADD. They’d probably sail onto the freeway next time I forgot about locking them down.
My satellite internet
Hughesnet VAR rig from ispsat.com
I used the skills learned from assembling my 3D printer to get this up and running.

I finished a story. Did I mention I finished the story? Also did I mention datasats are awesome?
December 2019 Reading, Watching, Listening, Playing
PRECURSOR by C. J. Cherryh, a longtime favorite author
THE MANDALORIAN all 8 episodes. Taika Waititi and Baby Yoda FTW
STRANGER THINGS. Finally got to the series
WINTER MOON, on Webtoons. Also a bushel of other webtoons.
“The Rise of Skywalker” because of course.
Thanksgiving Minecraft. Traditional family activity; great time had by all.
NO MAN’S SKY. Played it 2 years ago; checked back after all the updates. Still addicting. I made sure to remove it from the computer so I don’t get sucked into the black hole.
MY HERO ACADEMIA among other anime titles.
UNDERTALE. Finally got around to it. I aimed for the pacifist option, to see how it was handled.
December 31, 2019–Coming back online
All right. Coming back on line. This is your fair warni– wait :: looks in mirror :: This is your fair warning.
I’ll be writing, posting Apophysis flame fractals, sharing stories made with game engines, and maybe even some music. I’ll be posting a log entry every day–at least every day I have Internet reception, which includes the Hughes satellite dish I just bought, so fulltiming in a trailer won’t be an excuse.
And I’ll be attending symposia and conventions. Next one is Life, the Universe and Everything. I’ll be hosting an autism respite room there–I am so gonna need one.
Usually I write these logs in private but they will be here on the blog all year. Did I mention that pot is legal in California? And I am completely okay with using it as a crutch to get through this year.
Well I’m excited–how about you?
Free Fractal Friday
I should be writing about the adventures I’m having while on walkabout, but tonight it’s going to have to be enough just to know that I have made it online. Hopefully see you next week.
Free to download.
AWS as of September 4, 2019
I’m finding it useful. Also frustrating.
The Accidental Wizardry site, which I’m hosting on AWS, keeps crashing while I’m not looking.
Possible solutions:
- Migrate to WordPress.com
update: Nope, can’t migrate the sql database to WordPress.com. Thanks for telling me.
- Babysit the site as it is hosted on Amazon.
I’m including this in my work procedure. Having a procedure lowers anxiety levels, I’ve found.
NOT Uploading Accidental Wizardry to WordPress Today
Title says it all.
AWS Update
AWS took a surprising amount of time to learn. I’ve finally got one site out of the three I have planned.
One problem: Something seems to have taken a bite out of one of my private keys and corrupted the install. Poor key looked like it had the back end chewed right off.
Back to it.
The Linguistic Mimic
In case anybody is wondering why the diction in my posts has read as if a five-year-old has written them, it’s partly because of stress, and partly because I’ve been helping to take care of my five-year-old autistic grandson. I’m a linguistic mimic. Meaning that as I immerse myself in the voice of a writer, or speaker, my diction, vocabulary and syntax starts to take on characteristics of the model. And thanks to stress, it’s been taking on characteristics of the lowest-denominator speaker, the speaker with whom I most need to understand and communicate.
We’re moving. Meaning the stress is going down, meaning that my subconscious evidently feels that it’s free to taste and try more complex forms of language.
Welcome back, verbal artistry. At least, here’s hoping.
